Detailed Description
|
This review of the apostle Paul's use of the "body of Christ" metaphor offers insight on Christian unity in the context of social, ethnic, and gender diversity. Finny Philip compares and contrasts the "body" metaphor used by Greeks during the first century, to the early Christian tradition's use of it. Paul used the "body" metaphor to characterize the Church as a dynamic whole which is given life by the Spirit. In Christ we form one body, and each member belongs to the other, is mutually dependent upon one another, and grows out of shared experiences in the Spirit. This is not a loss of individuality, but a participation in the life of the Spirit, lived out in Christians service. |
