Whatever some might say about headship in Christian marriage, Jesus' example and the teaching of the Gospels and epistles indisputably teach self-giving love. This love is baptismal, eucharistic, kenotic, surrendered, hospitable, holy. The overflow of such love is the advance of the reign of God, and the world watches and wonders, for it offers hope and healing to millions of people. Husbands and wives give of themselves to one another, reflecting the God who is head over heels in love with us all.
