Detailed Description
|
There were many women listed among the champions of faith in the Hebrews gallery (Heb 11:1-38). The article specifically examines how different translations describe the place of Sarah in Heb 11:11 because the NRSV and the NIV include her almost as an aside to Abraham's faithfulness, while a number of other translations make Sarah the subject of the sentence (KJV, NJB, NEB, and NASB). After considering the textual and translational problems which lead to this difference of opinion, the article argues that Sarah is the subject. Moving from parenthesis to grammatical prominence, Sarah becomes a recipient of God's empowerment and a faith champion who trusts in the divine promise.
