Is Priscilla the Author? And How Does this Epistle's Theology Relate to Gender Equality? Ruth Hoppin
|
Detailed Description
This article focuses on the distinctive theology of Hebrews and how it relates to gender equality, and presents the case for Priscilla as the author of Hebrews. Hebrews is not an intentional feminist polemic, but a pastoral explication and exhortation. The fact that its case for gender equality is almost unintentional makes the case for even more strongly. Four theological insights that are unique to Hebrews counterbalance Paul's theology. They interpret rather than contradict and are intrinsic to the theology of the early church. The four insights examined are: the meaning of the crucifixion, the perception of the church, the focus on the ascension, and a second look at Melchizedek.
