Many people, including the author himself, have claimed that the creation of man and woman in their two genders is a vital part of what it means to be created in God's image. Now Wright regards that as a mistaken notion. Misreadings of texts such as Gal 3:28, passages in the Gospels and Acts, 1Co 14, and 2Ti 2 are undoubtedly due to a combination of assumptions, traditions, and all kinds of post-biblical and sub-biblical attitudes that have crept into Christianity. We must think and pray carefully about where our own cultures, prejudices, and emotions are taking us, and make sure that we conform, not to any of the different stereotypes the world offers, but to the healing, liberating, and humanizing message of the gospel of Jesus.
